SIBELIUS SARCOPENIA MODEL

We measure age-dependent muscle decline

C.elegans is the model of choice for identifying protective ingredients against age-dependent muscle degeneration. Especially considering the similarity of worm degeneration to sarcopenia in humans, Sibelius uses a transgenic reporter worm expressing a GFP-tagged protein that is localised in body wall muscle nuclei. The muscle deterioration is reflected in the progressive decline of the GFP expression.

SIBELIUS STRESS RESISTANCE MODEL

We measure survival changes in response to heat shock

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are involved in the protein folding necessary for proper functioning. Concentrations increase in response to heat shock and other environmental stress factors. We quantify changes in the survival of C. elegans in response to targeted ingredients vs a control treatment.


SIBELIUS DIABETES SUPPORT MODEL

We test tolerance to glucose levels

By testing control treatment vs targeted ingredients with different levels of glucose, our model assesses changes in the lifespan of C. elegans. We can monitor the effects of ingredients on lifespan in response to high glucose levels, providing insights into the treatment of diabetes.


SIBELIUS COGNITION & NEURODEGENERATIVE PROTECTION MODEL

We track markers of degenerative diseases

Using transgenic strains of C. elegans – exhibiting elements of neurodegenerative diseases, including plaque formation associated with Alzheimer’s – we assess the effects of treatment with targeted ingredients vs a control. This enables us to assess and quantify the protective effects of ingredients.


SIBELIUS ANTI-OXIDANT MODEL

We measure survival changes in oxidizing environments

A strongly oxidizing environment results in cell damage. Our model assesses changes in survival rates of C. elegans in such an environment, using treatments of targeted ingredients vs a control treatment.
